Suggest Treatment For Chest Congestion And Wheezing

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Dec 2016
Question: Hi, I have had 3 "flare ups" I guess since April of chest congestion and wheezing. I have had a chest x-ray, a breathing test and blood work. No signs of asthma, COPD or bronchitis. It starts slow and peeks, then gets better, lasting a total of about 8 weeks. Going for 4-6 weeks feeling fine and starts all over. Along with this I feel bloated in abdomen area with water retention. I had an ultrasound on my entire abdomen area with no results. Thank-you for your time.

Brief Answer:
Since you have had chest and abdominal symptoms, they could be inter-related

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM,

Since you have had chest and abdominal symptoms, they could be inter-related. I think there is some food /supplement/ drug that you had lately, started that is leading to these attacks. They subside on treatment and re-surface.

It is important to analyse if anything is precipitating these attacks. Food allergies are caused by high protein foods like meat, fish, eggs, large legumes, peanuts etc.
They can also be caused by chocolates, or any drugs and supplements you are taking.

You can either get an allergy test done or see whether any of these are recently started, and try to withdraw them one by one.

Meanwhile I will advise you to take an Omeprazole preparation and an enzyme digestive, with Monteleukast and Fexofenadine for about 6 weeks (please get the appropriate prescription from your doctor). They may abort further attacks and give you time to analyse the allergen.
