Question : my 96 year old mother has a lot of mucus in her chest ---no infection--we have checked that---maybe because she is unable to expand her chest cavity---she wheezes a lot so maybe not mucus---problem is she gets choked up a lot----would using something like mucinex help?

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description it would be beneficial if she uses a mucolytic. These combinations are available in the form of an expectorant with mucolytic. Sachets contain acetylcysteine known as mucolator can be advised. Bronchodilators like albuterol or ipratropium bromide can also be used.
