Question : Chest flutters and needle like pain in left chest sent me to er the other day. D dimer level was .89 and just got another reading today and it's .49 normal. Had ct scan EKG chest X-ray blood work everything came back normal except d dimer. What makes it fluctuate? Heavy menstration due to fibroids, 34 XXXXXXX XXXXXXX smoker under a lot of stress lately. Doc mentioned fatty liver non drinker 5'3 149 lbs. Otherwise healthy. Should I be worried? What causes the fluctuation of d dimer?

1. D-dimer is a lab assay which reflects the fibrinolytic mechanisms of the body. The normal levels are less than 250, depending on the reference range of your local lab.

2. You D dimer level is 89 and 49, which are both perfectly normal.

3. You are reporting to experience heavy menstruation due to fibroids. Bleeding is one of the factors causing the D dimer to fluctuate. However, in your case, such fluctuation falls within the normal range.

4. Once again, D dimer level is analyzed with caution together with other clinical symptoms and blood tests results.

5. Causes of fatty liver apart alcohol, include : smoking and diet rich in high calorie foods (high in sugar and bad fat content) and lack of physical activity.
