Question: My husband has Type 2 Diabetes. He is not on insulin. He's had chest tightness for the last 3 hours. I checked his blood sugar and it was 299. I had him take his evening dose of Invokana. No nausea or headache. What should we do?

Brief Answer:
possible emergency

Detailed Answer:
When my patient contacts me with such a complaint, I urge them to call 911 and go to the nearest Emergency room.

Heart trouble must be ruled out immediately.

Once it is certain there is no such problem then a thorough evaluation can be undertaken as to other potential causes for the chest tightness
