Question: Bronchitis (acute or chronic), the most common cause of coughing up blood. Hemoptysis due to bronchitis is rarely life-threatening My wife was recently diagnosed with bronchitis. Given bronchitis was seen as viral - the doctor only prescribed Mucuniex-D and plenty of rest. I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. If the infection has been diagnosed to be viral, antibiotics are not required. Mucinex D is right to be given. I do not think that you need to get apprehensive or concerned. However, I would insist for nebulization with normal saline. It will hydrate the respiratory tract and would help in diluting the cough and would thus provide relief. Steam inhalation is a good alternative of nebulization.
