Posted on Thu, 25 Sep 2014
Question: I am 58 male. I suffer from chronic constipation and abdominal gas problem. This gas gives pain mostly in both sides of lower abdomen. My stool is sticky, semi solid and less in quantity, giving feeling of heaviness inside. In a gap of two - three months, I have to take Norflox , albendazole. This gives little relief. Some time I take Secnidazole also. I can not tolerate Tinidazole/ Metronodozole and my body aches. One doctor told that I am suffering from IBS. Ultrasound of abdomen is normal.
Please help. Any medicine of Norflox group having better action ?

Brief Answer:
Does sound like IBS

Detailed Answer:
I think I would agree with your doctor
This does sound like IBS
The symptoms are typical, And none of your reports will be positive

I will however suggest a colonoscopy before we actually treat you for IBS

I will suggest high fiber diet
Plenty of fluids
Iaspghulla powder 2 tsf at bedtime daily
And a 15 day course of rifaximine
(if the colonoscopy turns out to be negative as well.

Please feel free to ask a follow up query
Best of luck
