Brief Answer:
It is part of life ma'am, nothing too serious

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. If at all you feel that you are developing a lazy bowel, the main approach to preventing it or rather suppressing it should be a few suggestions that I shall list below:

-Drink plenty of water
-Make it a point to include at least 30 minutes of exercise on a daily basis
-Make sure you have your meals at a fixed time every day
-Make sure you visit the toilet at the same time every day, resulting in a habit formation that should help your bowel to understand when it has to work to empty itself
-Increased fiber intake as you must already know
-Probiotics as you already know
-Avoid stress in all possible ways
-Try to avoid all medications unless completely necessary
-Medications (e.g. stool softners, rapid digestion pills, etc.). But as you must have tried them all, there is nothing much I am going to write on this point

I understand that you must know all the above listed suggestions, but these are the main approach to preventing or even suppressing a lazy bowel. Other than this, there is nothing much we can do.

I would also like you to know that things change with time, and so does our body. The same things we could do in our younger days, are not all physically possible as we grow older. I have also experienced so many of those things, although I am still in my late 20s. The same way, you need to understand that older men can never have the same control over their bladder as they once had. And individuals from both sexes may not have the same bowel movements as they once had.

All a doctor can do is to advise the best possible remedies to having a good bowel movement, and avoid the medications (e.g. stool softners, etc.) as much as possible. Please do not fixate on this too much, it is a part of life and a part of how our body changes.

I hope you understand how things can change with time, and all we need to keep doing is to never give up. Please feel free to write back to me for any further information or clarifications, I am always here to help you ma'am.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
My sincere apologies for the delayed response

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

My sincere apologies for the delayed response, I had a busy day at the hospital as I was on call today.

Amitiza (with the active ingredients of lubiprostone) is used in cases of chronic idiopathic constipation and is usually the last resort to treating constipation with medication. There is no harm in taking this medication as per the side effects perspective, but otherwise I would only prescribe this if at all a patient has not succeeded to get rid of or even improve constipation even by a small percentage. If at all you do fall under this category I would think twice, but then initiate the medication.

But only if I am sure I have tried all other approaches and have failed. I understand it is rude to ask a lady her weight, but if you do not mind please share your height and weight with me so I can rule out obesity to be a hinderance. I would love to hear more from you and help you to my best knowledge, so please do not hesitate to write to me about anything.

Best wishes ma'am.
