Suggest Treatment For Chronic Hip And Back Pain

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Jun 2017
Question: I fell yesterday and landed on my left hip. I hit concrete hard, however I was able to get up and walk without problems. I normally have some chronic hip and back pain. Today, however, I have been experiencing my left leg wanting to give out on me on and off. I have not fallen due to this, but am getting ready to leave tomorrow for a 10 day camping trip and am a bit concerned. I am 64 years old. It seems to be related to the position I have my left leg in. It started after getting into the passenger side of the car, which required abduction.

Brief Answer:
I will advise against this trip pending evaluation-X-ray!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks so much for this query.

For sure, a fracture is unlikely because the hip bone wouldn't support any weight without giving way if fractured. However, it is too soon for you to go camping-if this involves significant climbing and walking. If this cannot be postponed, I recommend that you get an x-ray to rule out and bone damage and receive potent pain medications to mask the pain while on this trip.

I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
