Suggest Treatment For Chronic Hypertension And Dizziness

Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015
Question: I have been diagnosed with cronic hypertension. I refuse to take drugs because every drug I take gives me dizzyness and other side effects that make me feel worse. I have lost twenty pounds, I eat a very healthy diet. I work out every day for an hour doing aerobics. plus I walk three miles to work and back every day. My bp is usually 140/90 no matter what I do. I take coq10, maganiziam supplyments and I juice vegies everyday. The other day my bp shot up to 230/140, I went to the VA emergency room and with meds they got it down to 140/83 and sent me home with meds. I have not taken the meds because I am afraid of the side effects. Dizzyness is horriable. In the morning after my work out and shower my bp is 117/72 then and hour or so later when I take it, it goes up to 159/92 then fluctuates throughout the day sometimes 164/101 then when I walk home and sit down its 123/79 and hour later 160/97.. what should I do.. do I really need meds?

Brief Answer:
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring will help

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Sustained high blood pressure can damage vital organs and it is advisable to have blood pressure treatment if your BP remains elevated for a significant period of time.
The best way to find this out is to request your doctor for an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
I shall advise you depending on the result.
In the meantime let me know your heart rate during these episodes of high blood pressure. If you are using an electronic BP apparatus, most give this reading.
Also let me know the medicines you have tried and the doses.
Dizziness is often due to sudden drop in blood pressure.
In the meantime continue your DASH diet and exercise.
Best wishes
