Suggest Treatment For Chronic Insomnia, Depression, Anxiety And Chronic Pain

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,

I suffer from chronic insomnia, which is triggered by stress, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain.
(Racing thoughts is the most prominent symptom for the chronic insomnia, close second is the pain) The chronic pain is caused by severe calcium deposits in the soft tissue, as well as advanced degenerative damage (arthritis, causing impingement syndrome most noticeable by the calcium buildup, and deformed humorous bone, which in turn, has caused both rotator cuffs to tear)

The pain is somewhat managed by:
Oxycontin 60 mg @day
Oxycodone 20-40 mg @day
The problem is...these medications do not affect me the way it does most patients. In fact, they tend to keep me awake rather than have any sedation type of effects.

I have tried:
Restoril, Ambien, Temazepam, Benadril

I am currently on Rozerum simply because I was working Internationally and suffered from severe jet lag. I do not think it is necessary to continue with this med since I am no longer working in these conditions.
What is the strongest sleep aide available by prescription??

Brief Answer:
seroquel or doxepine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concerns.

You suffer from chronic insomnia, depression, anxiety and chronic pain.

You have been taking testoril, ambien, benadryl, ambien and rozerum.

Benzos are usually the strongest sleeping pills. Temazepam has not been working for you. You can try klonopin or xanax.

But since stress and depression are the cause of insomnia. This needs to addressed to improve sleep.

In my opinion, you can try seroquel or silenor (doxepine), if you have not used these earlier. These drugs will take care of your sleep as well as anxiety and depression.

Kindly discuss this with your doctor as all these are prescription drugs.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask further.

Take care.
Thanks.
