Question: How to get rid of chronic sinuses
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sumit Bhatti (13 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Trial of medication 8 weeks, Sinus CT

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. A nasal examination and endoscopy helps in understanding the nature of the sinusitis.

2. A trial of medication is given for 6-8 weeks.

3. If there is no response, a Sinus CT is done.

4. If the Sinus Ct is normal, medication is continued.

5. If the Sinus CT shows signs of Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS), surgery may help. The type of surgery depends upon the CT findings, It broadly includes FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery) Balloon Sinuplasty, Septoplasty, Turbinate reductiona and so on.

6. The paranasal sinuses are unique in the sense that they cannot be removed from the body as in routine general surgery. They have to be healed by medication and minimal surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Lymphoid tissue hypertrophy, GERD.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. There is usually inflammation and hypertrophy of the lymphoid tissue in the throat.

2. This usually takes place due to post nasal drip and GERD (Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease).

3. This delicate tissue bleeds easily and is responsible for the pink discoloration of the sputum.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
