Question: Hi XXXXXXX

I suffered from clinical depression in the month of March,2014 . I consulted a psychiatrist at manipal hospital and was prescribed with Bupron 150mg everyday intake for 2 months. Later I came down to XXXXXXX and joined new company. Now, I am completely relieved of depression . However, there were a few incidents in my life during march\april which came as a severe blow to me. There is no sign of depression now . However, My doctor had given a reference letter and had asked me to consult a clinical psychologist . I have stopped taking meds since past 2 weeks now. Can you please suggest as to What should I do now? Is it fine if I stop taking meds?

Brief Answer:
You have to continue taking medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you for such brief history.

I had gone through it and understand your concern.

It is good that you responded to drug and relieved from depression in such short period.

Based on NICE guideline and clinical practice I would like to say that it is necessary to take medicines.

1st episode of depression should be treated up to 6 to 9 month after full recovery. 6 to 9 month of treatment will reduce chances for future re occurrence.

Clinical psychologist do not prescribe drug they only do counseling based on your past events and psychological stress.

Same will be done by psychiatrist too.

So my personal advise is to contact best psychiatrist near by and get advise.

Medicines plus counseling is necessary at this stage. Both are necessary for maintenance and reduce the chances of future re occurrence.

So start taking medicines as earlier dose and wish you good health.

I hope I have answered your query. Still if you have a query then feel free to ask.

Thank you.

Take care.
