Suggest Treatment For Cloudy Urine Caused By Hydronephrosis

Question : My husband has an obstruction in the lower part of the ureter and into the bladder. He was hospitalized and found the kidney was quite enlarged due to that obstruction. A tube was put into the kidney with a line and tube running down the side and into a bag. Today I found the urine cloudy and some mucous coming out out of the bag when I emptied the bag into the canister. Why?

Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that your husband has impacted stone in lower ureter causing back pressure changes in kidney (Hydronephrosis)and Urologist has put a stent in his kidney and per urethral catheter to drain urine from his bladder .

You have observed his urine to be cloudy and containing mucus .

whenever the kidney is obstructed due to stone in ureter the waste products in urine get collected in kidney a which helps to set up an infection in urine .This infected urine starts draining up after passing stent and that is the reason for urine being cloudy .

As regards presence of mucus it is due to foreign body reaction of the bladder to catheter which secrets mucus .

There is nothing to be worried about .It will get resolved within 3-4 days once the infection is controlled well with antibiotic .
