Brief Answer:
No harm in giving cerelac,Get him evaluated by pediatrician

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

The most common cause of cough and cold in this age is viral infection. This infection may be of upper or lower respiratory tract.

Most of the upper respiratory tract infection(URI) get subsided within 4-5 days after symptomatic treatment. Even in some upper respiratory tract involvement there may be noisy breathing with retraction of chest, the condition is known as laryngotracheobronchitis(if severe may need nebulisation and steroid injection).

Unlike URI when there is involvement of lower respiratory tract monitoring is required in all babies and he may need O2 inhalation or nebulisation depending on the severity. The symptoms of lower respiratory tract includes rapid breathing and indrawing of chest along with noisy breathing.

The main treatment for viral cough and cold is antiallergic(like chlorpheniramine) and decongestant(like phenylephrine)along with bronchodilator(salbutamol) to relieve the spasm of airways causing breathing difficulty.Putting nasal saline drops helps in relieving the nasal obstruction. You can give Drops like Timinic along with asthalin syrup and nasivion saline nasal drop. This is a prescription drug and get it prescribed by a pediatrician.
If there is no breathing difficulty you can give cerelac and continue the breastfeed.

So I would like to know whether the baby has increased respiratory rate, indrawing of chest or any feeding difficulty.

As you have mentioned the baby has noisy breathing, I would suggest you to be on safer side and get him evaluated by a pediatrician to rule out any laryngotracheobronchitis or involvement of lower respiratory tract.

If you have any more doubts I shall be glad to solve it out.
Wish your baby good health.

Brief Answer:
You need not to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome again

If there is no rapid breathing and clinically examined by a physician, you need not to worry. Wikoryl and Levolin has almost same composition as I have mentioned earlier.Continue the above medication in the prescribed dosage.

Give him nasal saline drop one drop in each nostril alternatively.Sometimes nasal obstruction can also cause noise during sleep.
It usually takes 5-7 days for complete recovery.Continue the feeding(cerelac and breast feeding) as before illness.

I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
You can add sugar to increase the palatibility

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Sorry for delayed reply

You can add sugar to the cerelac. Sometimes increased amount of sugar can cause increased frequency of stools,so be watchful for that.

In fact you can try other home foods also like dal ka pani, khichadi with ghee and fruits(like mashed banana, mashed boiled apple).Give frequent small feeds.Add one by one so that you can notice if there is intolerance to a particular cereal.
