Question: My 3 year old daughter is suffering from cold and little cough. No medicine was given for cold and cough. Today at 1 pm, she said that she is having pain in throat. At that time her body temperature was 99.5. We thought of giving Calpol after lunch. After we finished lunch, found that her body temperature was 103.7.
We gave her 5 ml of Calpol 250 ml.
Please suggest what other or different medicines needs to be given in this situation.

Brief Answer:
Give some anti allergic with decongestant along with paracetamol

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for asking on this platform

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
The common cause of fever with cough, cold in this age is some infection. Viral infection is more common than bacterial.
I would like to give syrup containing combination of chlorpheniramine an anti allergic and phenylephrine a decongestant like Timinic or Maxtra. The dose is 5 ml 2-3 times a day for this age. Monitor temperature and give paracetamol (a maximum of 60 mg/kg can be given in a day in divided dosage) accordingly.
If cough is significant giving syrup containing Levosalbutamol a bronchodilator and Ambroxol a mucolytic (a sputum thinning agent) Like Ambrodil-plus, mucolyte ls etc will help.
Observe her and if you notice that the fever is not responding to medicine, there is any breathing problem or increase in throat pain with difficulty in swallowing ; please contact your pediatrician immediately.
She may need antibiotic also depending on clinical condition.
All the above mentioned medicines are prescription medicine so please get it prescribed by a physician.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Wishing for your child's good health.
Regards
