Suggest Treatment For Cold And Pulsatile Tinnitus

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Mar 2015
Question: 8 weeks ago I had a mild cold and developed pulsatile tinnitus. Now I still have a 'cold' which has gotten worse, pulsatile tinnitus (whooshing of my pulse in left ear) has eased partially since starting amoxicillin 4 days ago, however my throat is awfully sore now, my neck aches and I'm still suffering from excessive fatigue. I also have a wet cough which wakes me at night too, which seems watery, not mucousy. When I talk for too long my neck/throat aches till I rest my voice. Voice occasionally almost goes.
I'm a light (5-10 a day) smoker, non drinker.
I feel pretty unwell. No fever.

Unremarkable medical history. Mild acid reflux, gallstone pancreatitis 2 years ago.

Brief Answer:
Following advice to ease sore throat

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

Having sore throat is a sign of viral infection complicated with pharyngitis or tonsillitis. Can you send a photo of your throat for further evaluation?

Tinnitus is indicative for post nasal drip or ear involvement. You should never suck your nasal secretions but always blowing. Use nasal spray to alleviate the symptoms.

Next, smoking aggravates cold sore and elongates the healing time.

I advise to :
- try to quit smoking
- use oral antiseptic spray to keep a good oral hygiene
- gargle with warm water and salt
- take 1 teaspoon of honey and olive oil on daily basis
- increase water intake
- use otc ppis (eg omeprazole, etc) to optimize stomach pH that might be altered due to getting cold

Hope it was of help! Wish fast recovery!
