Suggest Treatment For Cold And Rash In Chest And Back

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Oct 2014
Question: My 13 year old son had a "cold" about 2 weeks ago. 2 days into the cold he started developing a rash to his chest and back. The cold is now gone but the rash persists and it getting worse. It is on his chest, neck, back, genitals and thighs. It is itchy and now painful. Slightly raised, numerous red patches with no scaling, bleeding or drainage. He has no sore throat or problems breathing. We don't think he had a fever with his cold, though we never checked. We have tried allegra, topical hydrocortisone and topical benadryl, non of which has helped. He did see his FP doctor for this and they though maybe it was roseola. The rash continues to get worse.

The way you have described it and it started, chances of it being is either Measels or Chicken Pox,Though measels is not very common in after infancy.
These are air born disease caused by virus.
It starts with fever and cold with flu like symptoms.
Treatment basically given is symptomatic, as immune system of body suppresses the virus in the body.

Itching should be avoided as as it may cause secondary infection.
Keeping cleanliness is important so that secondary infection does not develop.
Itching is controlled by local application of calamine lotion after soft cleaning.
He should be given acetaminophen with some anti allergy to reduce the symptoms, and may be antacid to reduce symptoms of sore stomach.
