Suggest Treatment For Cold, Cough And Extreme Tiredness

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: Had a bad dose of the cold, with very flu like symptoms for 5 days now. Those symptoms are slowly going away however I've started feeling quite sick in the stomach and I've still got a nasty cough and extremely tired. Haven't vomitted yet, but feel like I could. Is this still cold/flu or something else?

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. COld and flu can be very nasty sometimes. What you are having in guise of sick stomach and dry nasty cough with extreme fatigue and lethargy are common sequelae of cold and needs symptomatic care and nothing else. There are more than 100 viruses that can cause a simple cold and flu some are nastier and resilient ones but the treatment is same for all that is conservative symptomatic and all self resolve some in days some in a week or two.

Coughs will take its course.Over the counter cough remedies wont help reduce the time frame of cough . May relieve the symptoms. Take some over the counter decongestants like sudafed etc and keep taking panadol neurofen.

Just drink plenty of fluids, prefer hot beverages like soup, herbal tea with honey in it etc. Adjust your room temperature and humidity and sooth your throat. You may use nasal saline drops. Garlic and salt water gargles will help.

Vitamin C , echinacea and zinc supplements have also shown to help the cold and flu symptoms.

last but not the least is rest for a while and wait and see. This prodrome will be over in a few days.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Regards
Khan
