Question : I had a cold sore recently and went to my dr because it was burning to pee. he said I have herpes and is testing me for the virus. I know the stigma with gental herpes and am concerned I haven't had sex or oral with anyone in 1 year. Will this now become a recurring thing like my cold sores? I am really freaking out.

I understand your concern.There are chances of herpes recurrence but that can be decreased if proper precaution is taken.
Some people do not experience symptomatic herpes recurrences, but for those who do, recurrences are usually shorter and less severe than the primary herpes episode.
There is a large variation in people’s experience of herpes recurrences. Approximately 80% of persons having a first herpes episode caused by HSV-2 will have at least one recurrence, while only 50% of persons with HSV-1 on their genitals will experience a recurrence. Genital herpes caused by HSV-2 recurs on average four to six times per year, while HSV-1 infection occurs less often, only about once per year.So,it is important to know you are infected with which type .
Recurrences are more likely to recur in the first year or two after acquiring genital herpes, but for many people become less frequent and less severe over time.
So ,with time the severity of symptom decreases.Please do not freak out.
