Posted on Mon, 20 Jul 2015
Question: Hello Doctor,

My 13 months baby (weight 16Kgs) was suffered from cold from 10-17th XXXXXXX followed by a viral fever from on 22-25th XXXXXXX and now she is having cough and also having mucus and nose blocked since 25th XXXXXXX
Problems she is facing
1)     Cough
2)     Cold (white liquid mucus , not yellowish as of now)
3)     Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI)
After consulting with doctor we are giving the below medicines
1)     Ambrodil – 3ml thrice a day
2)     T-Mimic - 3ml thrice a day
3)     Nesoclear saline drops – 2-3 drops in each nostril 4 times a day
Questions I have.
Though for immediate relief we are doing allopathy but we believe for permanent relief we need to take help of homeopathy.
1)     As she is suffering for long time (2-3 weeks) we have also given her the below medicines simultaneously
a.     Heper sulf 30 (4 drops – twice a day)
b.     Ammon curb 30 (4 drops – twice a day)
Can you please let me know will this medicines work with Allopathy or will react adversely with my 13 months old baby?
2)     Can you please suggest if the homeo medicines we are applying are correct?
3)     Also to build her immunity and to fight at the time of season changes can you suggest any medicine which we can give her for a long time and which will be safe without any side effects to my baby.
4)     Will the allopathy medicines we are giving cause any side effect to my baby?
We stay in a joint family and during season change somebody falls sick at home and my baby catches cough and cold from them. But this time this is bit prolonged so is there anything to worry about?

Thanks and Regards

Brief Answer:
Symptom wise Approach and Management

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting with your concern and following is the suggested / recommended guidelines for you and baby:

A. Since Age is small [1 year] thus along with suggesting medicine to her, it is very important for the Mother also to avoid food which aggravates Cough [which will be explained later].

1.
i. Hepar sulpharis: is mainly used in Respiratory problem [cough with loss of voice]

ii. Ammonium carbonicum: is also used in respiratory problem [ difficulty in breathing]

iii. Both these medicine can be used safely along with mentioned allopathy drugs
in present acute condition and will not have any undesirable adverse effects.

2. Since both these medicines work best when given in Lower potency, thus the recommended dosage of 4 drops is ideally suited for your baby.

3. Since she is suffering from recurrent episodes of COLD thus Rasayana drugs (Rejuvenation/Immunomodulators) which corrects the dysfunction of tissues without disturbing the functions of normal tissues, and potentiates humoral antibodies, by increasing serum Immunoglobulin’s such as IgA,IgG and IgM should be given to her:

. Septilin Drops
. Suvarn Prashan

4.
i. Nasoclear saline Drops since contains only water with salt thus is free of any side effects and can be used safely.
ii. Prescribing medicine in babies depends upon weight and not on Age and as far as her weight is concerned both the said medicines are safe and adequate.

5. Since she is breast feeding [correct me if not taking mother milk], thus it becomes Important for the mother to Advice regarding dietary regime for Cough, since as mentioned earlier it is the Mother who has to take necessary precautions to avoid transfer of cough/mucus from milk to her baby:

. Avoid cold drinks,cold water,ice creams,sour fruits [citrus fruits,grapes]
. Avoid fried rice, outside food.
. Take: warm/hot drinks often, take sweet fruits [papaya, mango]
. Take mainly soft diet with non spicy and boiled vegetables.

Brief Answer:
Explanation and clarification to your queries

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back.

1.
a. Since suvarn ( gold) has proven anti bacterial activity thus is used in infants/ children to increase immunity and widen its Immunomodulation property and thus one can give it in cough/cold condition.

PS. going by her age (13 months) get bottle of 21 Drops of Suvarnprashan (1 drop per day for 21 days), for 6 months, and ask/look for Ayurveda Hospitals where such camps are organised or I can courier you the said medicine (at your discretion)

b. As your baby seems to be bit overweight to you thus did.you suffered from hypothyroidism or diabetes in your pregnancy:

i. If yes, check her blood level also
ii. If no, get a pediatric consultation.

2. Ask for Septilin DROPS which is available for Infants.

3. Tepid sponging is good and at best, avoid head bath.
