Brief Answer:
Possibility of bronchitis is more.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

In my opinion, you should definitely consult a pulmonologist and get a clinical examination of the respiratory system, chest X-ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).

Since you were a smoker, lung infection and bronchitis are more likely and both can cause chronic cough.

Chest X-ray is needed to rule out lung infection. PFT is a must for bronchitis.

You may need antibiotics, inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids depending on the diagnosis.

Don't worry, you will be alright. First diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.

Hope I have solved your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wish you good health.

Thank you.

was checked by pulmonologist had lungs okay, not sure about PFT but had been given inhaled bronchodilators, spray up thru nose and gerd medicine. helped one month then back coughing real bad. how can I have gerd when I'm not having heart burn? I am thinking about checking a different doctor in bigger city-Houston.
Am on low income insurance so am trying to stay within their doctor list.
This has been going for YEARS but thought things would get better after I guit smoking. THANKS

Brief Answer:
Not dry GERD but early GERD.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You were improved with inhaled treatment. Why you stopped after 1 month? There is no term like dry GERD. You might be having early GERD.

Please let me know:
* Do you have belching, burping?
* Do you have burning epigastric pain?
* Do you feel Heaviness in stomach after eating?

Please reply me answers of above asked questions so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health.

Thank you.
