Question: Hi, I believe i had food poisoning last week which i have had before. constant vomiting, even little sips of water and not being able to eat anything. days have passed and able to eat soup and apple sauce and stay hydrated. past two days have felt better and back to myself. but now when i lay down to sleep i get a tightness in my upper stomach and chest and burp consistantly and gag effect. if i put my head straight back i vomit stomach fluid/acid and the upper chest tightness/pain is back. feels better to vomit whatever is inside to just get it out. any idea what this could be?

Brief Answer:
There could be possibility of acute gastritis or GERD.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have read your query and understand the concerns.

As you had food poisoning in last week,
have you taken any medications and
if yes, then for how many days?

The symptoms what you are facing right now are most likely to be due to acute gastritis or gastro esophageal reflux disease. You do not need to worry as it can be cured with proper medications with dietary precautions.

I would suggest you start over the counter medications like
1) proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole or pantoprazole OTC) twice daily half an hour before food.
2) diegene syrup with light diet 5ml orally thrice daily
3) avoiding oily/spicy foods for next 5 to 7 days

I expect you to get better over the week with the above mentioned measures. In case, if your symptoms persists for more than 1 or 2 weeks, then I would order complete hemogram, blood electrolytes, ESR, ultrasound abdomen and upper GI endoscopy (if required). Your local physician or gastroenterologist will know about the tests.

Hope this information will help you and if you need any clarification then feel free to ask me.

Regards,
