Posted on Tue, 13 Sep 2016
Question: i am a 30 year old woman. I frequently have constipation followed by mild stomach disorder which gets better within a day. but since sunday night (day before) i am experiencing bloating followed by some kind of disorder whereby i have to go to the washroom after about 2-3 hrs of a meal. the stool varies from semi solid to liquid. yesterday i had to visit the washroom 7 times, and today thrice. I was told to take norflox tz twice a day and i have taken three dosages but the stool doesnt seem to improve. i am feeling hungry though regularly. Please advise. Should i continue with Norflox tz? in that case after how long does the result show? or should i change it? Also what should my diet consist of. p.s. i have uterine fibroids for which i got lupride injection and have been of ulipristal tablet for the last 75 days. is indigestion a side effect of this drug. I am supposed to take it for another 15 days and stop.

Brief Answer:
Probably irritable bowel syndrome-Diarrhea predominant

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
It seems you have irritable bowel syndrome-Diarrhea predominant as the stool varies from solid to liquid in consistency. Only antibiotic which is effective is Rifaximine ( 200 mg three times a day for 5 days-standard dose). However it is prescription drug. You can stop Norflox-tz. Go also for stool routine examination and let me know the result.

A diet low in fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and
polyols (FODMAPs) has been shown to be helpful in IBS patients.
Avoid Milk and milk products Milk, yogurt, ice cream, custard, soft cheeses.

Antiflatulence drug like activated charcoal (Flatuna 1-2 tablet TDS)are safe and may help in relieving bloating sensation etc.
