Question : My mother is having problems with constipation, gas, bloating, and general discomfort. She is 9o. We can't seem to clear it.

Hi and thanks for your query.

Rectal suppositories are best when it comes to long standing constipation. She can take lactulose syrup along with it.

In elderly, laxatives like liquid paraffin, magnesium hydroxide, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, simethicone are safer. If these medicines are not available over the counter, please get a prescription.

Drinking lots of cleaner water and taking fruits like prunes and fruits juices should also help.
