Suggest Treatment For Constipation

Posted on Thu, 4 May 2017
Question: I am having some pain in my lower left side. I had the same symptoms in July of last year and went to the emergency room with it at that time. They found that I had an impacted bowel at that time and prescribed a laxative and I believe an antibiotic too. All of the symtoms I am having now are the same. I have some bisacodyl on hand at home. I don't have to use a laxative very often normally. Also you need to know that I have been on a pain reliever for back pain at this time too. I did not have any bowel problems until I started to take the pain reliever called Cipro. I also know that the pain in the side decreases when I pass gas but have no stool.

Brief Answer:
Impacted stool.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for posting your query.
Have gone through all your details and i appreciate your concern.

Most likely its a case of stool impaction again.
Constipation develops sometimes as a side effect of anti inflammatory medicines resulting in into fecal impaction, which causes block of colon from a mass of stool that can't be moved by colon contractions. Fecal impaction can cause pain in lower abdomen and a person with fecal impaction may require emergency treatment.

I would suggest you to take 10mg bisacodyl 2 tablets stat.If still not relieved i would suggest you to take polyethylene glycol. It works by holding water in the stool to soften the stool and increases the number of bowel movements. It is known as an osmotic-type laxative.

However in case this also does not helps then an enema or manual evacuation of stool can be done.
However to be on safe side i would suggest you to go for a stool routine test(to rule out infection) amd ultrasonogram of abdomen(to rule out inflammation).

I hope i answered your query well.
