Suggest Treatment For Continued Diarrhea And Lower Back Pain

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, I am a 31 yo XXXXXXX white male. Two years ago (after several years of diarrhea every morning and bad gas), I visited a GI doc and had a colonoscopy. Everything checked out clear, and we decided it was IBS. Fast forward to today. I had a hemorrhoid thrombose about a week ago, my diarrhea has continued, and I developed a lower back pain about 4 months ago that comes and goes. I had the hemorrhoid lanced, and it is getting better, although it still hurts some. I have an appointment with another GI doc next week, and I'm assuming I'll have to have another colonoscopy. Does this sound like typical IBS or should I be concerned? I'm very active, healthy and a marathon runner. I've monitored fever for months, and I don't have fever and haven't lost any weight. I don't have headaches, I've checked my lymph nodes in various places, and if I'm checking them correctly, they seem normal. I had a CBC in July for my routine work physical, and I was within range on all of the markers. I take flonase semi-daily to help with chronic allergy problems I've had most of my life. Any thoughts from anyone?

Thank you for your reply. No, I've not experienced blood or mucus in the stool. I have bleeding with the hemorrhoid, but I understand that's normal. No, I do not have abdominal pain or discomfort. I can just count on always having a loose bowel movement each morning. I do not wake up in the night because of the need to go to the bathroom. Actually, I've noticed that alcoholic beverages - beer in particularly - cause more problems than others. I am not diabetic and my thyroid function appears to be normal. My previous GI doc ruled out celiac, but I'm not convinced that even though I tested negative for Celiac that might not be attributable to the problem. Is that common? Thanks for your help!
