default
Posted on Wed, 26 Aug 2015
Question: I had a tooth extracted about 10 hours ago (2pm) and the wound site is still bleeding. It's not heavy bleeding but noticeable. It is midnight here so no doctors are open for service. Should I be concerned about the bleeding?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query.

I have read your query and understand your concern . As far as slight bleeding is concerned from extraction socket reason behind can be due to large area of laceration or dislodgement of blood clot . As it is midnight and no doctors is available so for this I will suggest you to wash gently oral cavity with cold water and apply moistened gauze pad on extraction site for atleast 45 minutes . To avoid bleeding you should follow some measures:
- Sit upright and dont spit again and again .
- Avoid vigrous activites .
- Do warm saline rinses gently after 24 hours of extraction .
- Drink lots of water and cold liquids .
- Take very soft diet to eat.
- Dont brush your oral cavity only use mouthwash like Betadine.
You can follow these measures and if bleeding didnot stop then consult your dentist for clinical examination and treatment .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.

The bleeding has become a little heavier but not pouring out a lot. I'm using a tea bag on it as I read that helps to stop bleeding. When should I be concerned and go to hospital?
