Brief Answer:
Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that acts on bacteria
Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome to HCM,
Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that acts on almost all kinds of bacteria.
But it does not act on viruses.
So if your cough is due to a virus, it will not act.
Viral coughs have to be dealt with symptomatically.
Your mucous relief DM should help. In fact any cough preparation with Guaphenesin and bromhexine should help.
Finish the course of Doxycycline and continue cough syrup till it totally clears.
