Suggest Treatment For Cough And Throat Irritation During Pregnancy
Question: Hi,
My wife is 22weeks pregenant and from last 2-3 days she is suffering from running nose and throat irritation.
She spoke with consulting doc. yesterday regarding the issue and she gave her
1. Calpol 650 0-0-1 x 3days
2. Montair LC 0-0-1 x 3 days
But today she was complaining that she can feel the cough becoming yellow and its like chocking near the chest and its not coming out (irritating sensation)
She is not getting proper sleep because of the irritation and coughing.
She is already on medication for pregnancy
1. Fol G2
2. Osmega
3. triple A Cal.
1. Is there any home remedy which can be followed.. i m worried because she is pregnant and i don't want her to have too many medicines.
2. Is the medicine for COLD .. dosage mentioned above is ok ?
3. Does she need to take some other medicine to over come the cough irritation part.
Need your expert advice and would prefer if you could suggest home remedies so that she can avoid taking so many medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
She has been advised paracetamol ( fever body ache)and MONTAIR ( mast cell stabiliser) in low dose and safe in pregnancy as well but they shall provide symptomatic relief. But considering that infection has set in with sputum becoming yellow , indicating bacterial infection, she can be placed on CAP AMOXYCILLIN 500mg twice a day for 3 days . This is completely safe in pregnancy.
Also she should start saline warm water gargles thrice a day and also plain water steam inhalation twice a day for controlling rhinitis and throat irritation.
This would help.
Regards

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for the quick reply
Does she have to continue "Calpol650 & montair LC" with amoxycillin 500 ?
i mean does she has to take all the 3 tab mentioned above.
if yes then the dose of Calpol and Montair needs to be kept same i.e. 0-0-1 for 3 days ?
Will eating all these tab i.e cold + Preg., cause any side effects ?
Regards XXXXXXX
