Suggest Treatment For Cough, Headache And Vomiting While On Ciprofloxacin And Flagyl

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: I was taken to the hospital with severe dehydration. The ER doctor gave me an IV and sent me for prescriptions for Ciprofloxacin 550MG tablets and Me....(flagyl) for 10 days. I was very ill and disoriented for two or three days. Yesterday I finished both, and am feeling much better - not much energy. And I have not been able to sleep well. My doctors are both apparently out of town - at least not answering phones. The cipro was refilled for me without my knowing. I really don't want to take it because I can't function or sleep with it. One night I was up for several hours on the bed vomiting just bile (that position because I pass out easily). The drugstore just sent another bottle of each. I am very hesitant to take them because I live alone - already have some side effects listed for Cipor: unusual cough, headache, and confusion. Two days ago, I got up and for a few minutes I thought my left side was partially paralized. (Still isn't back to normal.) The drugstore just sent another of each of these priscriptions,
and I am very hesitant to continue them. My experience at the hospitlal was such a horror; that is not an option tonight.

Brief Answer:
hold off repeat course unless directed by your doctor

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

I agree with you, it may be best not to use a repeat course of the antibiotics unless directed by your doctors after they examine you.

Based on the fact that you were given 2 sets of antibiotics, it is likely that an infection was thought to be the cause of or occuring along with your dehydration.

Fatigue or lack of energy can occur for 2 to 4 weeks after an acute infection so this may be the reason for this symptom.

Difficulty sleeping is not as common though this can occur particularly if you have any discomfort such as the headache mentioned or if the cough is severe.
Treating any disruptive symptoms may help eg pain killers for the cough (eg tylenol) or cough suppressants
Cough mixtures may also contain anti histamines which may help you to sleep.

I hope this helps. feel free to ask any other questions
