Suggest Treatment For Cough, Nausea And High BP While On Lisinopril

Posted on Tue, 9 Feb 2016
Question: When I wake up in the morning I have fluid in my lungs that I cough up. It is clear and does not seem to be related to an infection. Upon coughing it up I have a gag responce that makes me feel like throwing up. It has been going on for sometime now. I was wondering if it was a heart related issue. I do have slightly high blood pressure and take Lisinopril 20 mg tablets which I know one of the side effects is coughing.

Brief Answer:
Listed possible causes for you sir, but they will require evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am always here to help. I do have a couple of questions and I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with a response, so I can better understand what exactly is causing your cough and the fluid being expelled in the morning:

+What is the colour of the phlegm or sputum being expelled in the morning?
+Are or were you a smoker? If yes, since when (in years)?
+Have you been diagnosed with a condition called chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD)?
+Heart condition: Congestive heart failure can cause such a presentation
+Any allergies
+Asthma
+Infections: But will present with other symptoms as well, so I am not too sure about infections

As you can see sir, all the causes are different and require investigations, so please do speak to your doctor about the possible cause. I do strongly suspect congestive heart failure, and so urge you to visit your doctor for a more elaborate evaluation.

I hope this response helps you, and also hope you can find some relief from your presentation. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

In answer to your questions.
The phlegm is clear.
Was not a smoker nor diagnosed with COPD.
No allergies, no asthma, no infections that I am aware of.
I also suspect congestive heart failure so will try to get an appointment as soon as possible.
