Question: Was wondering what is the best thing to do for a minor crooked spine that has herniated disc that is pressing on nerve and the person does not want to get the spine moved over and have the rods put in. Also the person has cronic copd and bones are soft and there could be complications if they had operation. Also what is another way person can alleviate pain other than pain pills,

Brief Answer:
Rest and mecobalamine can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query and wishing you Happy and prosperous new year.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you are having disc prolapse . You are wanting to avoid surgery.

Other option is rest in position of relief(generally lateral position with both hip and knee bend),neurotopics such as mecobalamin and analgesics (Diclofenac/ibuprofen three times a day after meals is effective).

You wants also avoid analgesics(pain pills) then you are advised to rest in comfortable position so that pain will be less and you will need less analgesics. You can also use local analgesic sprays in place of tablets but theses are less effective.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
