Question : My lips are "weeping" for almost 2 weeks now. Wake up "crusty"and swollen. I went to my GP and she gave Keflex and told me to use Abreva. Problem is, I don't have cold sores, it started out as chapped lips that got worse. W h at can I do regarding the "weeping"? I have been putting triple antibiotic ointment on them for almost a week. I'm running out of patience and become down trodden as NOTHING has remedied my situation
Brief Answer:
allergy or eczema- hydrocortisone cream.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
With such presentations in my clinic, I would first rule out allergy -lipstick,tooth paste, mouth wash. Ass0ciated with eczema, sun burn, medications-propranolol, diseases-lichen planus, psoriasis.
Once I am sure this is not life threatening, I would start on hydrocartisone cream and oral anti histamines (citrizine) and multivitamins(nutritional deficiencies)
I also suggest to stop all the medications till you evaluate. In my opinion you have already tried antiviral (avera),antibacterial(neosporin-h).
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
