Suggest Treatment For Cut On Foreskin

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: After having dry sex without lubricant for an extended time last week, I got a small cut on my foreskin. After a couple of days I came down with a strong fever (could be unrelated) Fever is now gone but the cut has now developed into a bigger cut that looks like a moist open wound and it starts to look kind of infected. Your opinion please. Sign of an STD?

Brief Answer:
not an obvious STD; will need evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Dry sex to me is a very vague description of the event. From what I understand it was a penetrative sex without a condom; without sufficient lubrication with an unknown partner.

Based on the details provided and from the pictures, grossly it seems like a superficial bacterial infection. However I will not rule out STD completely without investigations.

Lack of lubrication leads to friction injuries which can get infected as in this case. If you are not ready to see a doctor, I would treat you with topical antiseptic cream such as mupirocin or neosporin (which is available over the counter). I will instruct you to keep the area clean and dry.

That being said, the ideal approach will be to see a doctor who will examine this wound; test the moist secretions for type of infection and treat it with appropriate antibiotics. It is also very important to test blood sugar as diabetes and hyperglycemic patients are prone for such friction injuries. Until then drink plenty of fluids and abstain from masturbation / sexual intercourse.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
