Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello there. Thanks for asking to healthcaremagic.
I am Dr.Senduran,General physician hope to answer your query.
Yes,the symptoms you enlisted are most likely associated with the chronic kidney disease regardless of stage. These symptoms are the consequences of uremia I.e fluid and electrolyte imbalance, accumulation of Nitrogenous waste metabolites like urea and creatinine etc which usually occur in any form of chronic kidney disease and also the severity increases as it progresses to end stage disease.Hope this answers your query. If any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.Take care.

what can be done at this point to eleviate or manage symptoms I described above? What are my options to manage this?

Brief Answer:
Supportive care and prevention of further renal function decline.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
At this stage of chronic kidney disease(Moderate kidney failure),the symptoms of uremia usually starts to arise and worsen if the progression is not controlled with effective measures i.e if Glomerular filtration rate(GFR) is further declining below 30 ml/min.This can lead to irreversible kidney damage( i.e end stage renal disease--Beyond stage 4,5).

But i would suggest you to follow these guidelines to prevent further decline in kidney function i.e end stage kidney failure.

1)Restrict salt 2grams/day,adjust water consumption according to urine output(recommended 2 liters a day)
2)Also Protein restriction in diet has been shown to improve symptoms of uremia.
3)Strict metabolic control needed
a)Effective management of hypertension,diabetes,obesity etc
b)Low dose water pills belonging to thiazides group can be used at this stage to increase production of urine and thus GFR
c)In case if you are hypertensive, treatment with angiotensin receptor blocker drugs like telmisartan can be considered which would be beneficial..
d)Limit potassium rich foods and also the use of foods and drugs containing high magnesium, potassium, phosphorous too
4)Try to avoid medications for the symptoms you are experiencing as far as possible, especially that causes decline in kidney function like NSAID's(Analgesics).Use relatively safer drugs like acetaminophen instead.
5)Intermittent hemodialysis may be required based on renal parameters and your clinical state.

It is advisable to check the renal parameters like urea, creatinine atleast every month and renal imaging studies(Ultrasound of kidneys),GFR calculation every 6 months at least..

Watch for any worsening of symptoms and signs like edema(accumulation of fluid in extremities, face etc),nausea, vomiting, refractory hiccups, vision and mental disturbances etc.Seek immediate medical care when needed..

Regularly follow up with your treating doctor preferably a nephrologist and follow the suggestions in order to avoid complications and further kidney failure..

In End stage kidney disease,Kidneys completely fail to work and there are only two options in the management.
1)Hemodialysis to remove the toxins(temporary aid, lifelong dialysis would be needed, overall expensive,)
2)Kidney transplant(Permanent aid,improved quality of life,overall inexpensive).

Hope i have answered your query. If you feel the query is complete, close this discussion and rate my answer.

Wish you good health.
Take care..

Is there differences in the pkd stage 3 and ckd stage 3? kidney function? doc just said stage 3.

Answered by Dr. Senduran Narayanasamy (28 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Difference is there.Probably your doctor meant CKD stage 3

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Thank you for the follow up query.
PKD is a different individual entity which stands for polycystic kidney disease but no stages available.
In fact,PKD is one of the underlying cause for CKD(chronic kidney disease) like diabetes, hypertension, ageing etc.CKD is a common entity given to describe the failing kidney regardless of underlying causes like PKD,ageing etc.CKD has got 5 stages however.

I wish to add an information to your previous query which is,
The symptoms of uremia you are experiencing like muscle cramps, fatigue, headache, dizziness etc get minimized on its own, when the kidney's function improves. Follow the suggestions effectively under supervision of a nephrologist.

Take care.If any concerns, you can get back to me.
