Suggest Treatment For Cyst On Both Ovaries And Lumbar

default
Posted on Sat, 14 Jun 2014
Question: I recently had a CT Scan done on my pelvis and abdomen. The CT Scan showed I had a cyst on my liver, cyst on both ovaries, cyst on bottom of my lumbar, and a small umbilical hernia. My doctor has not went over any of these with me but did have an Ultrasound done on my liver. I haven't heard anything back on it yet. What should my most concerns be and how should I approach each of my problems? XXXXXXX

It is important to know about the type of cyst means whether it is simple or complex?
Simple cysts are age related developmental cysts and doesn't require any treatment unless they are symptomatic.
It is also important to know about size of the cyst and reasons for investigation.

They said the cyst were benign but how can they tell by a CT Scan that they are benign? Also my doctor had the Ultrasound done on the cyst on my liver due to the fact I have been having upper right abdominal pain that comes and goes where a person has their gallbladder symptoms. XXXXXXX

Hello XXXXXX
Thanks for writing back

Probably you have simple liver cysts.Simple cysts are generally considered benign in nature.
There is typical appearance of simple cysts in imaging modalities. In USG,simple cysts are identified by thin wall clear cyst with acoustic shadow.Whereas in CT scan it is identified by non enhancing wall with its clear cystic lumen without any nodularity, solid component etc.

You shouldn't worry about the findings, but you need follow up USG to see further progress.
If symptoms are persistent then you may need intervention.
However in most of the cases, simple cysts only require watchful observation.
