Brief Answer:
Muscle relaxants will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The sudden pain can be due to a muscle spasm or a nerve related pain. He needs to lie down and take rest. Do a hot compress and apply a local analgesic gel on the area. Oral muscle relaxants will also help. Do consult an orthopedician in case the pain is persistent.
I hope this answers your query.
