Question: My wife is 35 weeks pregnant, she spent the night in the hospital last night. She was dehydrated and vomiting with diarrhea. The IV's helped immensely but they hurried her release. She is having some back pain and some occasional contractions. Our OB said drink fluids and you'll be fine. she is having trouble drinking fluids and she also has a Heart Stress Displacement disorder that causes her to have non epileptic seizures when highly stressed. She is high risk and I am afraid of early labor due to dehydration and need some help with what I need to do.

Brief Answer:
She needs rest and proper fluids.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Vomiting and diarrhea are known to cause dehydration. Since she got timely iv fluids she will be better soon. The mild back pain and occasional contractions can happen due to intestinal colic cause by diarrhea. This will stop with proper medicines and rest.
Just ask her to relax and rest in left lateral position for better blood supply to the baby.
If there is trouble in drinking fluids then she can sip a small amount every few minutes to maintain her hydration. Staying calm and hydrated is the cornerstone of treatment. Avoid dairy products for next few days. She can have fresh fruit juices, rice , flavored yogurt egg white and boiled potatoes initially. After she feels better she can gradually increase her diet.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
