Brief Answer: Detailed answer provided. Detailed Answer: Hello and thanks for the query. I am Dr Madhuri a consultant gynecologist. It seems that your wife has not had a period for 2 months and pregnancy test is negative. A pregnancy test comes positive 7-10 days after the missed period in women with regular cycles. If the cycles are irregular it may come positive later. So kindly check if her past cycles are regular or not. If the test is negative despite regular cycles and after getting it done more than 7-10 days after the missed period, the commonest cause for this may be hormonal imbalance. Ovarian cysts and stress also delay periods. It is best to get a gynec examination to look for specific cause. I will suggest medicine in this cycle but if the cause is persistent she may have similar complaints in the next cycle also. So please get her checked by a doctor to look for the cause. As of now, I suggest that you first see if the pregnancy test was done more than a week after the missed period. If it was done earlier, get a second test done now using a new kit and the first morning sample of urine. If this has already been done, she may take tablet devery 10 mg twice daily for 3 days. A period will come within the next seven days after stopping the pill if she is not pregnant. If she is pregnant, periods will not come and the drug is not harmful for the baby so you may continue the pregnancy if you want. If there are no periods 7 days after stopping the tablet, get a gynec examination and an ultrasound and if needed a hormonal test to look for cause of absent periods. Hope this satisfies your query. Brief Answer: I am extremely sorry but there is no syrup. Detailed Answer: Hello and thanks for the query, Pregnancy is definitely ruled out if all the tests came negative. Unfortunately the drug that is used does not come in syrup form. I am extremely sorry but none of the drugs in this group are available as syrups. They are progesterone group of drugs and cause a period if the hormone estrogen is present in the body. This is also called progesterone challenge test that we do for women with absent periods. There are some syrups available in India that claim to regularize menstrual periods. They are mostly ayurvedic [ syrup M2 tone and u gynetone] and unfortunately it is not my domain to prescribe them. You may visit an BAMS doctor for these. My personal experience with them has been inconsistent as informed by my patients that come to visit me after taking them. But I would still recommend an opinion of a BAMS practitioner for these. If she is having irregular cycles, it is best to get her evaluated. The most common cause is hormonal imbalance and it is not advisable to take drugs haphazardly without evaluation. The commonest reason for irregular periods is polycystic ovaries that occur due to hormonal imbalances and cause dysfunctional ovulation. It would help to know her age, obstetric history [ number of previous pregnancies and abortions etc if any], desire for future pregnancies and any other significant history that she may have like weight loss, or palpitations, milky fluid from the breast or any other significant finding. All of these help in formulating a line of treatment after evaluation. Hope this provided an answer. Feel free to ask any more queries that you may have. Dr Madhuri Bagde
