Suggest Treatment For Depression And Forgetfullness

Question: Lately I have been struggling with a bit of depersonalization and depression. What really has been upsetting me now is my lack of memory. I tend to forget things all the time at work ( leaving keys, wallet, forgetting to lock doors etc) and at home (walking into rooms and forgetting, missing appointments etc)
I have two very young children and I started work when my youngest was only 1 (older one was 3). I was blaming my crazy-practical single mom lifestyle on my forgetful nature, but now it's beginning to scare me. My grandpa had dementia and I think about him often.
I've taken a few days off without the kids to try to get my bearings in order and it seems to have re-affirmed my concerns. Part of me wonders if this is just the depression, loneliness or general oatmeal brain of having young children.... But at work, I'm constantly surprising myself with how much I forget. I actually sat in my car and cried one day due to the amount of unfinished thought id been having. It was really affecting me.
Depression, ADHD of sorts, this depersonalization thing, mommy brain... Or dementia? I'm just so worried! I'm only 30 years old

Brief Answer:
Most likely the symptoms are due to depression

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

I can understand your concern. You are just 30 years old and have problem of forgetfulness and this causing significant blow to your personal and occupational life. There is history of dementia in family so this should be ruled out. As you are 30 so the chances of dementia are very less but still risk is there.

I'd advise you to visit a psychiatrist and get expert opinion for your forgetfulness. MMSE or XXXXXXX mental status examination is a screening test that can give an idea about extent of memory impairment. This can help to rule out dementia.

You are a single mother, also working and have depression and depersonalisation so all these factors could be the aggravating factor for your forgetfulness. A lot of individuals with depression show memory problems and forgetfulness in day to day work. This occurs due to pseudo-dementia. Please consult your psychiatrist again for reevaluating the cause. In most individuals treatment of symptoms of depression results in reduction of memory problems.

I'd advise you to start taking Omega 3 Fatty Acids, vitamin B12 supplements and this will help to improve your symptoms. Relaxation exercises and yoga will help to improve the functioning.

So in my opinion the symptoms you are having are due to Depression most likely and this is not dementia though we have to rule out dementia considering the family history of dementia.

Thanks, Hope this helps you, if you have more doubts you can ask again.

Take care
