Suggest Treatment For Depression Despite Medication

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: I have been on antidepressants for most of my life, I'm 62 years old. I often feel very depressed even though I'm on the pills. I'm thinking of going off them gradually. Is this a mistake on my part?

Brief Answer:
Yes, it will be a mistake. You need a Psychiatric consultation!!!

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns today and will put my best efforts to get you out of this situation.

No, you should not leave the medications at your own as this may cause issues more than you have right now.

Actually we have to consult the Psychiatrist on regular basis to see and adjust the dosage if needed for the antidepressants. For, it isn't necessary that the dosage a patient is on today, will remain on the same forever. Sometimes we have to lower the dose, sometimes to increase the dose or even add or remove some medication based on the previous medical record and the presentation on this recent visit.

So, I preferably suggest you to go for in person evaluation from the Psychiatrist and he will adjust your dosage and medications if needed after careful examination during a session in his office.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating to help us assist our patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to 'Close This Discussion'.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see if there is any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. So keep a follow up to see how you doing.
