Suggest Treatment For Depression While On Citalopram

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Apr 2017
Question: I've been having these brief--15 to 30 minutes--periods of really intense, suffocating sadness during which it's almost impossible to function, and it feels as though nothing, nothing, nothing is ever going to be ok. It's like the feelings of complete emptiness, sadness. the worst parts of it, deeper than just feeling kind of restless and empty--a sadness as intense & visceral as rage or panic. They come on out of literally nowhere... like, I'll be feeling fine and doing something very normal, such as showering or watching a movie, and not thinking about anything particularly troubling or triggering, and--bam. Before I get a chance to realize it's coming, I feel totally dead inside, completely afraid, and I really feel almost suicidal. And then after 15 or 30 minutes I'm fine again.

I am on 20 mg of citalipram

I have had some good advise from Psychiatric doctors on this site before and wondering if anyone knew or had experience on what this was?

Brief Answer:
Increasing the dose of citalopram may help

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

From the available description it appears that you are experiencing transient depression which is a type of depression. The symptom duration is only difference between transient depression and depression proper.

In my opinion increasing the dose of Citalopram likely to help you. We need to understand that effective dose of citalopram is 20-40 mg per day and you are currently on lowest effective dose. Although we can go upto 40 mg but considering the duration of episodes I feel increasing the dose to 30 mg per day will be sufficient.

I hope this assists you.
If you have more questions I will be glad to assist you further.
If you do not have more questions, please close the discussion and if possible rate the answer for my future patients.
