Question: I am an 18 year old boy and for the past 2 months I have felt depressed. Seems like a cloud is over my head. My life is good and I am happy in general. I just started my first year University but I cannot seem to get into classes or get excited.

Brief Answer:
Hi you have adjustment issues with depression.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.

I admire you for positive outlook.

I understand your concern.

I guess it is adjustment problem in new environment.
Sometime when we moved to new place it will take time to adjust in that.

And adjustment issue sometimes lead to mood problems and lack of interest or excitement.

We can say depression only when you have persistent low mood and lack of interest since 14 days and it is not reactive to any pleasurable stimuli.

You have depresses since 2 months but it is persisted all the day for 2 week???

It is associated with many other features.

Do you have sleep problem?
Do you have loss of appetite or loss of weight?
Difficulty in concentration?
Negative thoughts?

If You have all this and persisted since 2 week then require consideration.

This condition can be treated with SSRI like escitalopram or sertraline and anxiolytic like etizolam.
Neither from these are sleeping pills.
Both medicines are not lead to feel you sleepy and you feel better with them gradually.

But Need to consult properly for better evaluation.

Revert back with all detail about it briefly.

Beside medicines following will helpful. But It is more beneficial with medicines.

Keep yourself busy.
Keep discuss with friends and family.
Do your hobbies and daily routines.
Do pleasurable activities.
Take proper sleep and diet.
Exercise and meditations daily.

Still if you have a query then feel free to ask and if you feel then consult psychiatrist and get help.
Thank you.
Take care.

Is there anything I can do for this cloudy feeling in my brain? I am having fish oil supplements which sometimes help. Are there any other recommendations as far as food or supplements etc

Brief Answer:
Hi supplements can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanx for reply.

Yes oil can help. But no supplements can replace medicines.

Food rich in serotonin can help like chocolate, banana etc.

But you should not only depend on supplements.

Try what I said and if require then take medicines also.

Thank you.
