Brief Answer:
Its a sign of depression.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
Since he is suffering from stressful period obviously he can land into depression. This is what has happened to him.
I would advise you to let him continue on Citalopram for a while.
What he needs at this time the most is you and your support.
Give him that. Let him cry, listen to him calmly. He may admit his faults and also his love for his ex
You don't have to get hyper and upset. Support him. Convince him that he is right. Make sure he speaks his heart to someone to avoid suicidal tendencies.
Don't worry. Things will be fine.
If you have any particular question do ask me
