Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Repetititve TMS is a treatment for depression that involves stimulation of the prefrontal cortex. Clinicians have attempted to directly stimulate brain structures beneath the superficial prefrontal cortex using deep TMS, using magnetic coils (H coils) that can induce a magnetic field with a deeper and wider distribution than standard (figure eight) coils.

Several studies suggest that deep repetitive TMS may be safe and beneficial. A five-week randomized trial that compared different types of deep stimulation coils in 57 patients found that response (reduction of baseline symptoms ≥50 percent) occurred in 37 percent, and adverse events were limited to headache and scalp discomfort.

In addition, another randomized trial suggested that weekly to biweekly maintenance treatment with deep repetitive TMS may reduce relapse over 6 to 12 months. This is still being investigated, with unclear benefits over rTMS, so I would suggest continuing with rTMS if it is working for you for now.
