Question: Hi, my husband got depression. And yesterday i did something i m not sure i did a right thing or a wrong thing. He is an iraqi and got the depression from the war. He run away on his 16th. We married 10 years, had a lot happy time. This XXXXXXX he went back to Iraq to see family. I think he got too much pressure there and turned to be different. He told me first he would not be back. Then, he came back but refused to be back to home. Yesterday I got him out to talk. He refused. I followed his car, and he turned to be angary and get tears out. I stopped. But i got something left in his car. I asked him to give me back. He said he will drop it in the mail box. I waited him and he came. Saw me, he wanted to run away. I stopped him and took his car key. forced him to get out. he lost control and cried and shouted on the street. he said no boyday love him, everyone want to get something from him ...........he was out of control for quite a while. I get him calm down a little bit. And then we talked, he said the family there gave him too much pressure, everyone there need money from him, his brother here also ask money from him. his wife-me, also ask money from him.....too much on his back. i said i do not need everything from him, he can control his money. I will take the home burden fully. He got a little bit calm down and said he will call me tomo. I never see he released his emotion like that. Sometimes like crazy. I don't know it is a good thing for him or a bad thing. I love him I want him back to home. How i can help him? He refuse to come back home, living in the car sometimes. I would like to give him space but keep contacting him. Is it a good way? Thanks for the help.
Also, i do want to help him to go through, how I can talk with him in the future? What is a good way to get him to accept a treatment? And how i can get him home as well? I think what i did may make him futher from me.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
From what you have stated it is quite clear that he is having a depressive episode. Depression can occur with regular stress and it can also occur biologically without any stress as well. He will need proper treatment for the same.
I understand that it is difficult to convince him to seek help. We see such issues regularly in our clinical practice. What you can do is, you need to talk tohim regularly in a non-judgemental way. You should neither sympathize with him nor get angry over him. Just extend a patient ear to him and let him vent out. Ones you are talking more frequently, you may discuss the option of seeking help for your problems.
There are various effective therapies for depression like fluoxetine, venlafaxine, bupropion, mirtazapine or escitalopram and they are all very effective and mostly safe. He may also require some benzodiazepines like clonazepam or lorazepam for a short period like 2-3 weeks to reduce the anxiety and help with his sleep.
If he is averse to the drug therapies then there is also an option of cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy is taken by either a psychologist or a psychiatrist in which the therapist identifies impaired cognitions (Thoughts) and try to correct them. They are 15-20 min weekly session and there should be around 8-10 sessions to help him with your illness.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
