Question: Hello doc

I am homosexual.. Few days back I masturbated a guy with unknown STD, HIV status. He didn't had any kind of sore or anything on his pennis and I dnt have kind of wond or so on my hand too... But I am scared because from childhood my skin just behind my finger nail peels off and also I have bad habit of bitting dry skin around finger nail.. Do I need to worry for this event?

Brief Answer:
There is really no risk of any STDs

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I am Dr. Kakkar (Dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern. STDs/ HIV are transmitted only through direct/ intimate sexual contact e g either vaginal, anal or oral sex as it involves contact between infectious fluids and genital or anal or oral mucous membranes. Mutual masturbation/ giving a handjob to someone is absolutely safe. It does not matter even if you have skin peeling off your fingers as firstly masturbation does not involve contact with infectious fluids or blood and even if there is contact with infectious semen/ precum of the other person then also just superficial skin peeling or paper thin cut does not pose any risk of HIV, though there is a theoretical risk of HSV(herpes virus) and HPV infection through the peeling skin if it is in direct contact with infectious semen / precum. However. only contact of infectious semen/ precum with an actively bleeding and fresh cut on your hand would pose any threat of HIV, if at all
