Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea And Lethargy

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: Hello I have been cutting out meat for over a year now just the odd salmon fillet here and there and yesterday I ate quite a few prawns and I became violently ill with severe diahorrea and incredibly lethargic, I feel very week and today have just been sipping on water and an isagenix cleanse . Is it fairly normal to have this reaction if you haven't eaten these foods for a while? I feel like by eating the way I have I have lost my tolerance for such foods ? How long should I wait before going to the doctors or should I try gastrolyte? I ate the food at lunch time yesterday and was awake at 2am with diahorrea and have been going off and on all today it had now been 30 years since I ate the prawns and 15 hours since the diahhorea started? Just thought I would be starting to feel better I am so lethargic? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Sounds like allergy or infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question. It would be normal to have some mild diarrhea after not eating meat or shellfish for a while and then eating a lot of them, however your reaction is not a mild one. This sounds more like you may have a shellfish allergy or else you got some sort of gastrointestinal infection from the food. Allergies can develop at any time so maybe you could eat shellfish in the past but not now. If you are having fevers this would point more toward infection. Gastrolyte is a good electrolyte replacement and is always good to take after diarrhea (or vomiting). I would try that and if your symptoms do not improve over the next 24 hours then see a doctor. If you are having high fevers then I would suggest seeing a doctor right away. I would definitely avoid all shellfish in the future. If this was an allergic reaction, the next time you encounter shellfish it could be even worse.
