Question : Hi, my son is 5yrs, I've been travelling by train since yesterday 8am. He had loose motion 5 times, I gave him carmicide once bcoz of his stomach ache. I have Bacigyl-N with me now, can I give him that, if yes, how much.

Dear Mr XXXXXXX,

Antibiotics are usually not beneficial in management of uncomplicated loose motion in children. Even then it's empirically used. Bacigyl N dosage is 8 mg per kilogramme body weight per dose of Metronidazole. ( it contains Metronidazole plus Norfloxacin) given twice a day .

Also I would suggest the following measures.
1. Ensure good hydration: Fish lime juice with salt added , buttermilk,
2. Probiotics
3. Curd rice
4. Avoid carbonated beverages
5. Proper hand wash
6. Avoid oily and spicy food
