Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea And Vomiting In A Child

Question: Daughter woke up at 4 am with diarrhea 3-23
she started throwing up an hour later.
this lasted until 5 pm on 3-24. after this no more nausea but even today(3-25) she still has loose stool( but it is firmer) and fever of 100.8F.
I was concerned about her appendix but she never had right sided tenderness and no rebound pain when I checked her at McBurney's point and I checked her several times a day from the first time she started feeling bad.
How long does a fever usually last after nausea stops when you have a stomach bug?
She's definitely feeling much better but making sure i'm not missing something.
Note - a stomach virus has been going around her school.

Brief Answer:
stomach bug, following advice
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am sorry for the situation your daughter is going through.
Taking into account her symptoms amand history of viral gastroenteritis among her friends, I can say that she is having stomach bug and not appendicitis.
I advise to encourage her to :
- drink plenty of fluids especially water
- take OTC ORS to replace the lost electrolytes through vomiting and diarrhea
- take tasectan / pepto bismol to stop diarrhea
- have light meals ( soups, yoghurt, banana, toast, cheese, etc)
Wish fast recovery!

Brief Answer:
It's normal to have fever...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Yes this is normal. The vomiting and fever are due to infection and the fever may persist after the vomiting has past away.
Fever and vomiting are associated with lost appetite and will cause dehydration. The best thing to do in his case is rehydration therapy with oral solution.
Wish you and your family health!
